Elena Selli, University of Milan, Italy

Prof. Selli is full professor of Physical Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Milan. She graduated in Chemistry cum laude in 1977 at the Scuola Normale Superiore and at the University of Pisa. After one year (1978) at the Institut für Physikalische Chemie of the Ruhr Universität Bochum, Germany, she moved to the University of Milan, where she has been working for more than 30 years, first as a research assistant, then as an associate professor and a full professor. She teaches Physical Chemistry courses for the Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry degrees and Photochemistry to Master students, and is in the board of the PhD School in Chemical Science and Technology. She has long been studying kinetic aspects of photo-induced processes, while in the last two decades her interests have mainly focused on the mechanistic aspects of semiconductor photocatalysis for environmental applications. This includes studies of surface and bulk modification effects on the photocatalytic paths for water and air purification, as well as the development of highly efficient and sensitive photocatalysts and devices for solar energy conversion processes.
